Hanna travels the path to wellbeing
Hanna, 17, Ranger, shares her thoughts and tips for finding wellbeing
Everyone has their own definition of wellbeing, but I think they would all agree that it’s important.
However, it can be difficult to concentrate on – exams and school take attention away from it. This needs to change: wellbeing is key to mental health, the decisions we make in life and in achieving our full potential.
Focusing on wellbeing is something the Girlguiding programme does really well. Our promise commitment to ‘do our best’ is a great example, as it encourages girls and young women to achieve their potential and become more conscious of their own mental and physical wellness.
Achieving wellbeing is a journey. It’s an ongoing process and needs to be carefully maintained. For me, being mentally well is a major part of it.
I read mindfulness and self-help books and meditate when I feel I need it, usually during exam season. I’d like to meditate more regularly, but it’s something I’m still working on.
I also think helping your peers improve their own sense of wellbeing can help you; it allows you to become more aware of your state of mind. We’re all on this journey and, while we have different hurdles, our destination is the same: feeling happy, fulfilled and healthy.
