More interest badges for girls coming in 2025
Everything you need to know about new interest badges as a parent or carer
We're working with girls to create 72 new interest badges across Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers.
Which means more opportunities for your child to explore new passions and find what they love. They’re coming in July 2025.
Your child can get involved and design their own interest badge at home.
There’s nothing else you’ll need to do – we're just letting you know so your child can get excited about what’s coming up for them next year!
What are interest badges?
Interest badges are a type of Girlguiding badge girls can earn by exploring new interests or diving deeper into their passions.
There are 3 parts to our programme - which is what girls get up to in guiding. Interest badges are 1 of them.
- Unit meeting activities (UMAs).
- Skills builders.
- Interest badges.

How do girls complete interest badges?
- Girls can complete them individually outside of their unit. This could be at home, on holiday or wherever they like.
- Girls choose when they do them. It could be over the weekend, in just a few hours or around other commitments your girl has.
- Girls decide how they complete challenges. Each interest badge contains 3 challenges and we let girls choose how to do them in their own unique and creative way.
- Girls share what they've done with the volunteer who runs your local unit. When the activities have been completed, their leader will sign it off in their badge book.
Didn't know your child could earn interest badges at home? Take a look at how other parents and carers are doing it.

Head to our badge finder and filter by your child’s section to see our current range of interest badges. The full badges and the challenges can be found in badge books for Rainbows, Brownies and Guides. And Rangers can be found on the badge finder.
Why are we making more interest badges?
When we reviewed our programme, we listened to the voices of volunteers, girls, parents and carers who told us what they did and didn’t like about it.
Here’s some things we found:
- Interest badges are the part girls enjoy the most about the Girlguiding programme.
- Girls enjoy doing interest badges even more when they can do them with others, including friends and family.
- Girls (and their parents and carers) said they want more interest badges.
- Girls mostly enjoy creative arts and crafts activities.
- Be well is girls’ favourite programme theme!
So we’re working directly with members to give girls more of what they love by doubling interest badges for each section.
Get involved by designing a badge at home
We’ve already heard lots from you about what interest badges you want to see. But we want to hear even more!
To get involved, complete our new topper activity to create your own interest badge.
A topper is a stand-alone activity that girls can do at home or with you in their units. Toppers aren't a part of the core programme so they can be used for any occasion!
- Design what your dream interest badge looks like.
- Write down what it’s about and why you’d like it.
- Write down the 3 challenges you’d have to complete to earn it.
All your ideas will help inspire what we create in the future.
