The web safe code for young members
Helping Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers use the internet safely
Most people use the internet.
Each section has a web safe code that young members can follow to keep themselves safe online.
When using the internet, I promise:
- to tell an adult what sites I want to visit and the games I want to play.
- to not say hurtful things to others.
- to tell an adult if something upsets me.
- to tell an adult if a stranger speaks to me.
When using the internet, I promise:
- to agree rules with my parent or carer about the best way for me to use my devices (computer, phone, games console) and the internet.
- to keep myself safe and not share any personal information like my full name, my home or school address, my phone number and my email address.
- to only share photos or videos online with people I know in the real world. And to always ask if it’s okay before I upload them.
- to tell my parent, carer, teacher or leader if something online worries or upsets me.
- to only download files on to my devices only if it’s okay with my parent or carer.
- to think carefully about what I read, hear and see online, and not to trust information unless I have checked it with a parent, carer, teacher or leader.
- not to arrange to meet up with someone I have met on the internet, and if someone asks me meet up with them, to tell my parent or carer.
When using the internet, I promise:
- to make sure I only use websites that are designed for my age.
- to only accept friend requests from people I know.
- not to publish or give out any of your personal details, like my address or mobile number.
- to always ask for permission from my parent or carer before uploading photos or videos online.
- that if someone is making feel uncomfortable, to block and report them.
- to be wary of emails that contain unknown links, and to check with an adult if I don’t know what to do.
- that if I send pictures to someone, know that they can be forwarded onto others.
- to remember that online friends are really strangers no matter how long you have been talking to them or how friendly they seem.
- not to arrange to meet up with anyone I’ve been chatting to online.
- to tell a trusted adult if something online upsets me.
When using the internet, I promise:
- to only use websites that are designed for my age group.
- to only accept friend requests from people that I actually know.
- not to don't publish or give out any of my personal details like my address or mobile number.
- to always ask permission before uploading photos or videos of other people online.
- that if I set up a group, make it closed. And make sure that I adjust your privacy settings to moderate. I’ll also only invite and accept people I know.
- that if someone is making feel uncomfortable, to block and report them.
- to be wary of emails that contain unknown links, and to check with an adult if I don’t know what to do.
- that if I send pictures to someone, know that they can be forwarded onto others. not to arrange to meet up with anyone you have met on the internet. If I really have to, make sure that I take a responsible friend with you and that I meet in a public place during the day.
- to speak to a trusted adult if I’m concerned about my online safety.
