Including disabled members
'In a sense, I wasn't disabled at Guides. I never felt like my impairment was an issue... I loved Guides so much because I wasn't singled out for being different, like I was at school.'
There are so many things you can do to make sure disabled young members and volunteers can participate fully in guiding.
As a charity for all girls we strive to make sure that every girl and young woman is given full access to the opportunities that we offer. Sometimes this means taking a bespoke approach, making adjustments for members on a case by case basis. This will help you to remove potential barriers that disabled members face, so they can enjoy everything guiding has to offer.
If you require support or advice on including any young members, we invite you to use the resources and guidance available.
If you can’t find what you need, or you want to talk things through with someone to make sure you are meeting the requirements of our Equality and Diversity policy, get in touch with your local commissioner or with the national info team for bespoke help and advice.
Use the guidance in this section - from adapting games and qualifications to making sure your language is as inclusive as possible - to help us create a fun, safe and inspiring environment for everyone.
