We invited a Peer Educator to our units
What happened when peer educator Laura came to talk to Natalie's Brownie unit and Katie's Guide unit about body confidence
The girls really got to grips with what Laura was saying and had their own ideas about stereotypes.
'I know better than most the devastating effects of a lack of body confidence,' says Katie. 'My daughter was bullied about her body, leading to social anxiety, depression, self-harm and ultimately hospitalisation for anorexia. Young people need to have the confidence to stand up and speak out against the pressures they feel.
It was easy to work with Laura
'So we booked peer educator Laura to come to visit our Guides. Laura’s session on body confidence was a big success. The girls had such inspiring and delightful messages to share.'
Natalie also found working alongside peer educator Laura really easy. 'I introduced Laura at the beginning of our meeting then stepped back and helped her only if she needed me. Laura was so well organised.
I was proud of the girls
'The girls really got to grips with what Laura was saying and had their own ideas about stereotypes, which surprised me. I was very proud of the way they tackled each task and discussed the topics. Some youngsters who were getting used to new braces found it helpful to hear so many positive messages from their friends.'
