Magic and Mayhem Info for Leaders
Coming to Magic and Mayhem? Find out more about travel, accommodation and facilities
Magic and Mayhem is our big summer event for Rainbows and Brownies
The organisation of the whole event has been superb - both before the event and on the day. It's easy to get here and it's great that we don't need a Going Away With Licence to bring our girls along. There's a fanatastic range of activities - we'd love to come back next year. – Lyndsey, 8th Colne Brownies
It’s held at three of our Activity Centres – Blackland Farm in Sussex, Foxlease in the New Forest and Waddow Hall in Lancashire. The event will take place from 10am on Saturday 9 June to 10am on Sunday 10 June – with day tickets available on the Saturday so you can attend from 10am to 5.30pm.
We’ll make sure you’re fully supported at the event to give your girls the best experience possible, but there are some things you’ll need to know in preparation.
We will be providing coach travel from a local train station for each event – from East Grinstead for Blackland Farm, Brockenhurst for Foxlease and Clitheroe for Waddow Hall.
If you don’t want to take the train and the accompanying coach, you can always travel by coach or minibus. It’s OK for you to arrange to be dropped off and picked up from each site, but no long-stay parking will be available for coaches or cars.
See below for more details on how to travel to our Activity Centres.

What to bring
Although girls sleeping overnight will be in a covered Big Top, Leaders will still need to make sure they have suitable bedding (a sleeping bag, blanket and a small pillow), pyjamas, a camping mat and a groundsheet large enough to sleep on.
Even if you’re just staying for the day, make sure you don’t forget anything by checking the complete kit list in our booking pack.
Safeguarding and licences
You won’t need a Going Away With Licence to bring your girls to Magic and Mayhem. However, it’s still important that your Leadership team cover standard Girlguiding ratios during the event, make sure all girls have the correct forms and inform your Commissioner you’re planning to come. Leaders will have overall responsibility for the supervision of the girls they bring to the event.
Magic and Mayhem is also a great opportunity to gain experience for or begin working towards the Going Away With Licence – so speak to your local Commissioner for more information.
On the day
- Activities – there’ll be several zones on site where girls can try out activities, from circus skills to science experiments. Each Activity Centre will also offer adventurous activities like tunnelling, low ropes, caving and bungee trampolining. All these activities are included in the ticket price – and the opportunities available on-site will make it really easy for Brownies to gain their Circus Performer badge.
- Food – food isn’t available for those holding day tickets. If you’re staying overnight, dinner on Saturday evening and Sunday lunch are provided – but you will need to provide your own packed lunch for Saturday and additional snacks for your girls.
- Facilities – the site has shower facilities and toilet blocks, and additional toilets will be provided for the weekend.
You will receive further information about the event by email after you book, as well as a request for travel information, dietary requirements, additional information and event forms.
