Volunteers' Week 2025
Listen to our amazing volunteers who are having a big impact – both in guiding and beyond.
Thank you to everyone who makes guiding happen.
Volunteers’ Week is a national campaign to recognise and celebrate people who volunteer in the UK. It’s happening this year on 2-8 June 2025.
We have over 77,000 volunteers that deliver guiding to girls across the UK and we want to show you just how amazing they are.
Not yet a volunteer? Register your interest today.
You gain so many skills from the volunteering you do. You gain so many experiences, you meet so many people and you make some amazing friends.’ - Abi, unit leader for 3rd Ashby Guides, Leicestershire.
Thank you to all of our volunteers
The impact your volunteering has goes far beyond the world of guiding. It's the fun unit meetings, colourful badges and so much more.
It's about the adventures you've had and the stories you've helped shape. It's the local communities you've built and the friends you've made. The lessons you've learned, and the milestones you've celebrated. Thank you for doing it all.
Without you, we couldn’t do things like:
- Deliver our programme to an average of over 300,000 girls each year.
- Offer girls exciting adventures, residentials trips or days out.
- Shape the future of Girlguiding with our lead volunteers, insight pools and youth steering groups like Amplify.
- Recruit more girls and volunteers every year with your local campaigns.
- Give girls, and other volunteers, a sense of fun, belonging and community.
- Keep guiding going for over 100 years.
Together, you help to do every single one of those things. And we know you’re having a big impact – both in guiding and beyond.
I’ve never really thought about it but I do now wonder what I would be like if I hadn’t joined Girlguiding because it’s such a big part of my life.’ - Steph, Guide and Ranger unit leader, Edinburgh.
Meet Abi
Meet Abi, unit leader for 3rd Ashby Guides in Leicestershire. She’s known for going the extra mile to make sure the people around her feel valued and heard. Listen to Abi’s story below.

Meet Steph
Hear from Steph, a Guide and Ranger unit leader from Girlguiding Scotland who supports 2 young members of the Scottish Youth Parliament.
The skills Steph’s gained during her time volunteering in guiding helped her land a new job in the charity sector!

Meet Joanne
Listen to Joanne’s story. She’s a true community hero! Joanne is a Guide leader for 1st Killylea in Girlguiding Ulster. She’s also a district commissioner and helps with the local Rainbows unit.
Joanne has raised over £1 million for various charities and goes above and beyond to organise youth events in her community - including concerts, tractor runs and even a Santa’s cottage!

I love being out and about, meeting new people, helping people... and you know, there’s so much that you get back, but also so much that the community gets back.’ - Joanne, unit leader for 1st Killylea Guides, Ulster.
Say thank you with our new topper activity
Looking for a fun and free way to say thank you to a volunteer in your life? Girls can say thank you with our new topper activity that inspires them to draw a picture of a volunteer and write 3 reasons why they’re thankful for them. A topper is a stand-alone activity girls can do at home or in their units. It’s the perfect homemade thank you gift!
Want to keep spreading the love?
Thanking volunteers should happen all year round. Not just during Volunteers' Week! There are small things you can do to show volunteers they're appreciated:
- Write thank you cards. Or post a message in your local chat group.
- Buy a thank you badge.
- Get girls involved by asking them to come up with fun ways to say thank you.
- Ask if you can lend a hand to support an upcoming activity or event.
- Explore our flexible volunteering options.
