Improving technology for everyone in guiding
We're working on a long-term project to improve our technologies
Girlguiding helps girls know they can do anything, and to make that possible, we need digital systems that support volunteers.
We’ve listened to feedback from volunteers, parents and carers, and it’s clear that some of the systems we use today, including GO, aren’t as flexible or easy to use as they need to be. That’s why we’re building a new digital system to support guiding now and in the future.
This new system will eventually replace GO and create a more modern, joined-up experience across guiding. It’s an exciting opportunity to improve how we support you in your journey.
What’s changing and what’s staying the same?
We’re introducing a new customer relationship management (CRM) system to manage member information and everyday guiding tasks.
- GO will stay in place for now.
- We’ll gradually move to the new system in stages from 2027.
- We expect to fully transition by 2028.
Our focus is to move away from GO and transition to the new system. For a period of time, many of the processes and steps you’re familiar with will feel similar, but will happen in a new, more modern system.
We’ll work hard to keep disruption to a minimum, but there may be a short time where both systems are running alongside each other as we transition.
While we focus on building the new CRM, GO will change less over time. This is because our energy is going into creating something better, shaped by volunteers, parents, and carers and designed to last.
From 2027, we’ll begin to transform how key tasks are done, especially at unit level, working closely with volunteers to design these improvements.
How this will help you as a volunteer
The new system is being designed with volunteers at its heart. Over time, it will help to:
- Make everyday admin quicker and simpler.
- Reduce duplication and unnecessary steps.
- Make it easier to find information and complete tasks.
- Create clearer, more consistent processes.
All of this means less time on paperwork and more time on guiding; planning activities, supporting your unit and delivering great experiences for girls.
Built with volunteers, not just for volunteers
A key part of this work is user‑centred design. That means volunteers, parents and carers are going to play a key role and be involved in shaping what’s built, testing new features, and sharing feedback. You’ll be involved through design groups, co-creation activities and feedback sessions, as well as engaging early adopters and a network of CRM champions to help shape the experience.
There'll be plenty of opportunities to get involved as the system develops, and we’ll support everyone with clear updates, guidance, and help as changes are introduced.
You can also read our blog from the lead volunteer for the project, Keri, explaining how volunteer input is shaping the new system and what’s happening next.

What happens next?
We’ll keep this page updated as the work progresses, with clear information about what’s coming up, when you’ll see changes, and how you can be involved.
This is an exciting step forward for Girlguiding in helping us build a simpler, more flexible organisation that better supports and empowers volunteers to deliver exceptional experiences for girls.
