Our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion

We celebrate a diverse workforce and champion inclusion in the workplace

At Girlguiding we want to be a place where everyone is welcome, is free to be themselves, and has an equal sense of belonging – whoever they are and wherever they’re from.

Creating a fair and equitable environment for everyone to thrive is important to us.

One of our strategic priorities as part of Girlguiding’s strategy is to be an inclusive and impactful organisation. As part of this commitment, we’re delivering our equity, diversity and inclusion (ED&I) strategic plan where our focus is on equity. We know the benefits of a diverse workforce, so we’re committed to inclusivity and to employing people from all backgrounds. Girlguiding is proud to work with a number of organisations who support us to create and foster a culture that celebrates diversity and champions inclusion in the workplace.

A snapshot of some things we do as an organisation:

  • We report annually on gender pay gap and ethnicity pay gap within our organisation. While ethnicity pay gap reporting isn’t a legal requirement for UK employers, we see it as a key part of our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Our staff identity networks are a safe space for staff with shared marginalised identities and lived experiences to come together. They’re opportunities for mutual support, change, conversation and celebration. Our networks have the ability to support and guide change in our organisation.
  • We’re all about helping our team find the right work-life balance. That’s why we offer flexible working options like compressed hours, part-time roles, remote work, and job sharing—wherever possible.
  • We offer enhanced parental leave for staff who qualify, supporting parents to have time away from work with their baby,
  • We regularly ask staff for feedback on how Girlguiding’s senior leaders, managers and trustees champion and engage with equity, diversity and inclusion through staff surveys.
  • We’re committed to ‘doing better’ through our ED&I strategic plan, which outlines Girlguiding’s ambition to become a more inclusive and impactful working environment.
