Our next stage of our digital transformation journey

What's happened so far, what’s coming next and how volunteer feedback is driving every step

By 2028, everyone in Girlguiding will have exceptional digital experiences to help them support girls and young women.

And we’re on track to do that!

What’s happened so far

As you’re probably aware we’ve carried out a lot of research to find out what volunteers, parents and carers, girls/young members and staff want, building the foundations for our new digital future.

Last year, in 2025, we ran a pilot to test a new unit meeting recording tool. Over 1200 units took part – thank you! The tool was designed for unit leaders to use in their meeting place to track attendance, unit meeting activities and skills builders. Through the feedback we received, it became clear that our current systems, including GO, aren’t flexible or future proof enough to support the improvements we want to make. As a result, we closed the pilot.

What we’re doing

It may have seemed quiet, but the team has been busy behind the scenes building on what you’ve told us needs to improve. We’ve heard your frustrations about repeated tasks, unclear processes and time-consuming admin, and that’s been a key focus in shaping this work.

I’m really excited to share that we're going to be introducing a new CRM (customer relationship management system). This system will manage member information and everyday guiding tasks, and will eventually replace GO. It’s being designed to make running a unit easier, from reducing duplication, simplifying tasks and making it easier to find what you need. This means you won’t have to spend as much time on admin and can spend time doing the things you enjoy the most – creating great experiences for girls.

Alongside this, we’ve been preparing data so it’s ready to move across smoothly, meaning fewer errors and less re-entering information.

We’ll continue to share how your feedback is shaping these changes, so you can see what’s improving and how it will help you.

How volunteers are being involved

Volunteers have been involved with this work every step of the way, from completing surveys, talking about their experiences on the pilot and letting us know their views. I particularly want to thank the key user group and the volunteers who fed into the process to recruit a new supplier for the new CRM. They generously gave a lot of time being involved in the CRM and partner selection process.

So, what’s next?

This is only the beginning of our digital journey. We’re recruiting for an experience design specialist volunteer to work alongside me, making sure volunteers continue to be embedded in the process. We’ll introduce her soon! We’ll also be updating you over the coming months on ways more volunteers can be involved, including polls, workshops and drop-in sessions. Watch this space for more information as we continue on the next steps of this exciting journey.
