Have your voice heard and help shape the future of Girlguiding. We’re looking for young people aged 12 to 18 to join us for our third year of Amplify.

What's Amplify?

Amplify is a steering group made up of 30 young members from all across Girlguiding UK. We have an online meeting once a month and take part in lots of extra opportunities and workshops to shape our organisation and to make sure that girls, and their voices, are represented.

We work with all sorts of staff and volunteers – for example, the inclusion and diversity, strategy, digital and chief guide teams. You’ll get to:

• Share your thoughts and experiences with other young people to make the changes you want to see.
• Work together with senior staff and volunteers to shape the future of Girlguiding for all young members.
• Work with us to explore how Girlguiding can become more girl-led.
• Gain leadership skills and develop your confidence.

Some amazing things that Amplify have done recently:

• Help recruit the new chief guide and deputy chief guide.
• Fed into important decision making like the Girlguiding business plan and decided what our key priorities should be.
• Hosted a youth-led workshop with trustees and the chief guide team to explore topics that are important to girls today.
• Interviewed nominees and award winners on the red carpet at the Guiding Celebrates event in Leicester Square, London.
• Attended the King's Coronation and represented Girlguiding at this historic event.

Why should I take part?

• You'll have your say on what’s important to you, and work with us to make the changes you want to see.
• You'll meet young people from guiding units across the whole of the UK.
• You'll build skills for your future that will look fantastic on your CV or university application.
• Taking part can contribute towards your DofE or Queen’s Guide Award.
• You'll take part in some amazing opportunities such as shaping new digital tools for Girlguiding, working with us to be more sustainable, improving our programme and much more!

Who can apply?

If you’re aged 12 to 18 and an active member of Girlguiding (for example, a Guide, Ranger or young leader) you can apply.

We're looking for young people who can represent the diversity of Girlguiding, from all countries, regions and backgrounds. You don’t need any previous experience of youth leadership, just the passion to make Girlguiding the best it can be for all our young members!

How does it work?

If you're successful, you'll be offered a space by early June 2024. From the 8 - 11 August, we'll get together for an induction weekend camp where you'll meet the other Amplify members and leaders. You'll take part in fun workshops, teambuilding and learn all about your new role!

From September, the group will come together once a month online, with other opportunities to get involved along the way. We'll mostly meet virtually, but there will be other chances to all get together in person.

You’ll be part of the group for 1 year to start with, but with the chance to stay longer if you’d like to.

Before you apply, please check that you're free for our induction weekend which will take place at Hautbois Activity Centre in Norwich from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 of August 2024. Travel, accommodation, activities and food are organised and covered by Girlguiding.

There’s no minimum word limit. Some Amplify members this year only submitted a sentence or 2. As long as we can see your thoughts and personality, that’s all that matters.
