Become specialist volunteer for innovation and reach

Apply by 23 May 2025

Help Girlguiding to expand our reach, increase our impact and help more girls to learn, grow and have fun.

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced volunteer to be part of our exciting new initiative, Guiding Reach and Innovation. We’ll be exploring new ways to deliver the fun and learning of guiding to girls, and look for ways to extend our reach and increase impact. Initially, we’ll be focusing on schools and education provision.

You’ll help us to engage with volunteers and girls in the right ways so we can gain their valuable insights on school environments, alternative education provisions and enrichment opportunities. We’ll use this information to create and develop concepts for new projects.

What will I be doing?

As part of this role you’ll:

  • Help Girlguiding to engage and communicate with both girls and volunteers who have experience and knowledge of school and education environments. This will shape how we create and deliver pilot projects, so we can then develop them further.
  • Provide a volunteer’s perspective on our innovation and reach projects.
  • Network with other like-minded organisations.
  • Inform our processes for scaling-up and developing our successful projects.
  • Sit on the innovation and reach board and take part in research sessions.
  • Work closely with the lead volunteer for retention and growth, the specialist volunteer for recruitment, and other specialist volunteers in the team.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for a creative, open-minded volunteer with a deep knowledge of guiding. You’ll be interested in innovation and human-centred design, and passionate about reaching more girls and representing more communities.

We welcome applications from volunteers with knowledge and experience of school leadership or enrichment provision - however this is not essential to apply. You’ll have support from your staff partner and volunteer line manager, and opportunities to develop further in the role.

For full details, read the role description (Word, 667KB).

How long does this role last?

The role will start in June 2025 and will be for 12 months initially, with the possibility to extend.

How do I apply?

  1. Read the role description (Word, 667KB).
  2. Email [email protected] answering the following questions in no more than 500 words:
    • Why are you interested in this volunteer role?
    • What skills, knowledge and experience do you think you could bring to this role?
    • What does innovation mean to you and what do you think this means at Girlguiding?

The closing date to apply is Friday 23 May 2025.

The appointment will be made by the chief guide.
