Our first uniform sneak peek: ‘Who we are’

Get a sneak peek at some design details of our new uniform

14 May 2025

In June 2026 we’re launching a brand new uniform for all sections and volunteers.

It’s the first time in 30 years that we’re updating the whole range. Last year, we kicked off the design process with a survey and uniform design activities open to every member of Girlguiding.

Nearly 55,000 members responded, and we learned a lot about your needs and preferences. Your thoughts and designs have helped us develop a new range that we’re really excited about, because it’s rooted in what you’ve told us you want.

What’s happening right now?

We’re still working through design tweaks and changes as we start to make samples of the new uniform, and find out how well the designs are translating into real life. We’re testing things like the fit, the stitching, different fabrics and colours. And as we expected, by doing this, we’ve found there are some aspects of the designs that need tweaks and adjustments. All this testing is crucial to make sure the uniform pieces are of the highest quality, best fit, have a limited impact on our planet and are affordable.

We won’t be sharing the full designs with you until 2026, so that we can make the most of the launch as a chance to make a big splash, show who we are, remind people that we’re still here, and recruit more girls and volunteers.

But we want to be open about as much as we can! We’ve already shared an insight into how your uniform designs have inspired the design team. And between now and launch, we’re going to be bringing you 5 sneak peeks of specific parts of the uniform, themed around our original 5 design principles. These are principles that we identified at the beginning of the process, to help us guide every design decision we make. We’ll share sneak peeks that bring these principles to life with details like sizing and fit, how we’re making the new range in a more sustainable way, and other design features that we’re excited about.

Here's the first one...

‘Uniform should get across who we are’

Our uniform needs to help show what our beliefs and values are as a charity. As well as being modern, inclusive, and attractive to reach new girls and volunteers, it needs to help current volunteers and girls of all ages to feel proud to wear our uniform and be a part of Girlguiding. As a movement formed in the early 1900s, we’re proud of how we were pioneering from the start, empowering girls and young women.

Pioneering means to be the first to do something. Every day, we all work to keep alive the pioneering spirit that the first girls who joined Girlguiding showed. We want to make an equal world where everyone is welcome, and girls can speak up for change.

Our history is such a big part of our story, we wanted to make sure that the new uniform celebrates our beginnings, and reminds us of how far we’ve come.

In this video, Girlguiding’s creator collective visited The ARC – Girlguiding Norfolk’s archive resource centre. With the help of The ARC’s archivists, they explored how old pieces of uniform can help us learn more about the people who wore them, and Girlguiding’s history.

Watch the video now, and stay tuned until the end for a a reveal of how we’re celebrating our history with the new uniform!

The ‘Since 1910’ badge will appear on select items in the ranges for each section, as well as on a range of volunteer uniform. We hope you love wearing this reminder of our pioneering legacy!

Look out for more of our uniform sneak peeks coming between now and launch!
