Do you care about the world and want to help the environment? We’ve got the award for you.

Girls have told us it’s important to them to do something about climate change, so we’re on a mission to be more green with the Rainbow Eco award.

What is the Rainbow Eco award?

Eco is a shortened word for ecological. Ecological means our relationship with people and animals.

The Eco award will help you to think about how you can be more sustainable. This means finding daily ways you can help look after your environment. This can be anywhere you choose - at home, in your unit, or a place in your local community.

You’ll have fun and help to protect the planet, while earning yourself a special badge and certificate!

Rainbows have a Monarch butterfly on their badge. Monarch butterflies are endangered because their homes are being lost due to changes in the environment. You can find out more about this on the WWF website.

What do I have to do?

You can complete the award in 5 steps. This can be done by yourself, in a group, with your unit or even with your local community.

Step 1: Check your carbon footprint, using the handy carbon footprint checker in the award resource.
Step 2: Choose an environment to focus on. This could be your home, unit, or in your local community.
Step 3: Pick 3 actions you can take to help your environment – there are lots of ideas for actions in the award resource, so you can find some that suit you. Make sure to fill in your award log with what you’ve done!
Step 4: Inspire others – share what you’ve done with your guiding friends.
Step 5: Celebrate - you've earned your Rainbow Eco award!

Download the Rainbow Eco award resource (we also have a print-friendly version). This will tell you what you need to do, and give you ideas for actions you can take to earn your award. It also contains your award log, where you can record the actions you've taken. Make sure to speak to your leader so they can add your award on GO.

Leaders can download the Eco award leader guidance. This contains information on how leaders can support girls to gain their award, whether in or outside the unit.
