June camping challenge with GO Outdoors

June is National Camping Month! To celebrate we’ve come up with a camping challenge to highlight all the amazing things you can do to achieve your camp skills builders.  

Camping is in Girlguiding’s DNA. We want girls to experience the joys and fun of camping. To create lifelong memories and friendships and work together to navigate any challenges that may come along the way.

June’s camping challenge and competition

Choose an activity or activities from our camp skills builder to do and share your experience with us on Facebook during June to be in with the chance to win a £100 GO Outdoors voucher. 

Whether your unit has a trip planned or not within this month, these activities can be done at any time, so don't miss out!

Camp skills builder challenges 

We’ve picked out a couple of our favourite activities for each stage and included the recommended age ranges and sections.  

Let us know which your favourites are and share your experiences with us this June! 

Stage 1 – Rainbows 

• Caring campers - find out how to look after the plants and animals you’ll see and not do them any harm.
• Tent-tastic - you can’t go camping without being able to put up a tent! Get creative and build the best tent you can.

Stage (1 &) 2 – Rainbows and Brownies 

• Get packing - how quickly can you get organised? Think fast to decide what you need to go camping, and race to pack your bag.
• Can you see in the dark? - make sure you don’t go bump in the night. Get ready for bed by torchlight so you’ll be an expert on your next camping trip.

Stage 3 – Brownies and Guides 

• All pitch in - what jobs do you need to do while you’re camping? Have fun acting them out, then think about how to share out all the important tasks.
• Invent a gadget - ever wished you had something to make camping life a little easier? Now’s your chance to invent it!

Stage 4 – Guides 

• Tent beetle - can you name all the parts of your tent? Race other teams to collect all your tent parts and pitch your tent first.
• Fireside feast - light up the campfire and stop those tummies rumbling – cook your own fireside feast!

Stage 5 – Guides or Rangers 

• Shelter sleepover - forget the tent – you can build your own shelter to keep warm and dry.
• Healthy camp, happy camp! - keeping everyone healthy is important at camp. Find out how to make sure things are clean and safe, and share your findings with others.

Stage 6 – Rangers

• Need it? Build it! - this is your opportunity to build big. Practise your pioneering skills and make something spectacular for your camp.
• Miss the risk - camping can be a risky business – can you handle the hazards and figure out how to avoid them?
