A safe space level 1 is for all volunteers over the age of 18, including GO coordinators, and home contacts.

Everyone needs to have the correct level of a safe space training for their role. You may have your membership withdrawn if you do not complete the levels you need. Find out what happens if you haven't completed your training.

People visiting a unit once, for example an expert or community leader, don’t need to complete any training, but they should be aware of the importance of our safeguarding practices and follow the guidance and checklist found on the visitors to your meetings webpage.

For parents on a rota at the units, you should follow the guidance on involving parents.

In a safe space level 1 training you’ll:

  • Get a basic introduction to our safeguarding policy and processes.
  • Learn about your role and responsibility.
  • Discover our volunteer code of conduct – how to behave when guiding.
  • Find out what to do if you have concerns about a member.
  • Learn where to go to for help.

To do the a safe space level 1, go to a training session or complete the module 1 e-learning on our learning platform.

The e-learning takes 20 to 25 minutes. Or a training session will take 60 to 90 minutes, and you can speak to your commissioner or country or region office to find out when the next session is.

You can only complete the course when your renewal window opens which is 180 days before your level 1 expires. You can complete your training anytime within the 180 days. This means that when you next come to renew, it’s 3 years from your original expiry date. You can find all the details on the learning platform.

If it’s your first time on the learning platform, click on the ‘need help logging in’ button to get instructions on how to set up your password.

If you’re an enquirer, you need to set up your GO account first. There are instructions how to do this in your welcome email from us. You’ll need to wait 24 hours before your learning platform account is activated.
