Updating our strategy

It's time for us to review our strategy, and we'd like to know what you think

04 September 2024

In 2020, we launched our strategy – today, tomorrow, together.

Shaped by the voices of girls, leaders and parents, it’s helped us set specific goals that we’re all working towards together.

We set the following priorities:

  1. Let’s create exceptional experiences for girls and young women
  2. Let's develop a rewarding volunteer experience
  3. Let’s be more inclusive and make a bigger impact

We have also strived to be a more sustainable and efficient organisation.

Together these formed the pillars which have guided our activities to achieve our mission.  It provided our strategic positioning of being for all girls and young women, being girl-led and offering bespoke activities and experiences.

Shortly after the strategy was launched, Covid-19 changed everything. We all adapted fast to keep guiding going online, and then went back to face-to-face meetings as the world opened up again.

In the 4 years since the strategy launch, we have achieved a lot. But now it’s time for us to update our strategy, and be clearer about what we need to do to achieve our vision.

Girlguiding's vision

An equal world where all girls can make a positive difference, be happy, safe and fulfil their potential.

Girlguiding's mission

Through fun, friendship, challenge and adventure we empower girls to find their voice, inspiring them to discover the best in themselves and to make a positive difference in their community.

Why are we updating our strategy?

Since we launched our strategy, the world has changed a lot, and we need to make sure that we can keep pace with changes in the future. Updating our strategy regularly helps us make sure that we can continue to be effective, and respond to changes as we need to. It will also help us to be practical, and allocate the resources we have in a way that makes the greatest impact.

Our overall vision and mission aren't changing. We’ll still be girl-led and powered by volunteers. But sharpening up our strategy will help us define our ambition for the next 5-10 years, and help us focus on what we need to do to better serve all girls.

How can you get involved?

To help us decide how to refocus ourselves for the next few years, we’ve set up a Thinking group. This includes trustees, the chief guide team, members of Girlguiding’s council, and girls. Together, they’re thinking about what work we should be doing to achieve our priorities over the next 5-10 years.

‘Being part of this group has been an incredible opportunity to understand the challenges and choices facing Girlguiding. We were united by what makes us fabulous and unique, whilst exploring the opportunities to remain relevant in a constantly evolving world. I am excited for the future of Girlguiding.’ Rona, chief commissioner, Thinking group member

And we want as many members as possible to have their say too. That’s why we’re inviting you to complete our new survey.

We want to be clearer about what makes us unique as an organisation, and what we should be doing to achieve our vision of an equal world. To get good answers to these questions, we need to know what our members think.  Your responses will help us agree a new strategic ambition by the end of 2024, and build a plan in 2025 to deliver it.

The survey will be open until 23:59 on Wednesday 9 October. Complete it now to have your say.
