We asked volunteers, girls and their parents or carers what they think of our programme, including skills builders.

What volunteers and girls said about skills builders
Around 67% of volunteers report that their unit typically completes 1 skills builder stage a term. The majority of units deliver skills builder activities as a whole unit or in smaller groups - that’s great!
Skills builders are designed to be done in stages. Doing them once a term gives girls the perfect balance of doing fun unit meeting activities and developing their skills as a group.
It helps me develop useful skills that are transferable into real life situations with the advantage that I gain a badge’ - Guide.
Rainbows and Brownies said doing skills builders was fun, they learnt new things and felt a sense of reward.
I look forward to building new skills and earning a new badge, so I can show others what I have earned and learned to do.’ - Rainbow.
Across Girlguiding, older sections complete more skills builders – around 68% of Guides and 85% of Rangers. Older girls expressed that they liked developing skills and learning new things, but sometimes the activities can feel quite serious or a bit like school.
We've already been working to inject more new and exciting activities into recent unit meeting activities (UMAs) like our animals and music topics, which girls have told us they love. We’ll continue to create new activities and badges that feel exciting to girls and different from school by testing them all with our members.
