New interest badges to help girls achieve their Eco award

These environmental-themed badges count towards the Eco award

You might have already seen that earlier this year, we introduced 72 exciting new interest badges.

But did you know that while girls are completing some of these new badges, they could also be working towards gaining their Eco award?

To achieve the Eco award, girls need to choose 3 actions to help the environment around them. Many of our new interest badges encourage girls to become more sustainable, help animals, and do good things for their local environment and community - all perfect activities to qualify for an Eco award!

Here are some of the exciting new interest badges that can count as actions towards the award.

Rainbows

Bee rescuer

Girls will learn fascinating facts about insects and take action to help our fuzzy friends.

Great outdoors

This badge encourages girls to explore the world around them all year round, introducing an appreciation for nature and wildlife.

Brownies

Animal helper

Girls can take action to support different animals native to the UK, finding creative ways to help them and protect their habitats.

Birdwatching

This badge gets girls into the great outdoors to spot, identify and learn about our feathered friends.

Wayfinder

Girls can become trail-blazing explorers and immerse themselves in the natural world, discovering hidden paths, spotting clues and making maps.

Guides

Biodiversity

Girls will discover the wide variety of animal and plant life in their local area and learn how to help them grow and thrive.

Clean planet

Girls can learn how to protect our world and make a difference in their everyday lives, 1 simple action at a time.

Entomology

This is the word for the study of insects. Girls will enjoy exciting outdoor bug-themed challenges with this badge.

Rangers

Environment

From recycling to planting trees, girls will find out new ways they can take daily action to protect the planet.

Gardening

Watching plants bloom and grow is a wonderful way for girls to connect with nature and feel a real sense of achievement, whether it’s flowers, veggies or herbs.

Micro-adventures

You don’t have to go far to experience adventure. With this badge, girls can explore the wonders of nature in their own back garden or local park.

Wildlife

Interesting wildlife is all around us —you just have to look (and listen). Girls will gain a new appreciation of the creatures in their local environment with this badge.

How can these badges help girls to achieve their Eco award?

To gain the award, girls choose 3 actions to help the environment around them. These can be done individually, with their unit, or in groups within their unit. The actions are flexible and chosen by the girls themselves, but this can include completing 1 or more of these environmental-themed interest badges.

Girls will then share their actions with others in their unit or another section, for example by taking photos, making a short video, giving a presentation or designing a poster.

Then it’s time for the unit leader to sign off on the award so girls can get their special badge and certificate!
