Thanks for helping raise over £600,000 with Children in Need

You’ve helped get money to where it's most needed, helping more children and young people

31 July 2024

Over our 4-year partnership with BBC Children in Need, your incredible efforts helped to raise over £600,000.

This amazing amount of money has been split equally between the 2 organisations, with 50% of Girlguiding’s share going directly to supporting local Girlguiding units across the UK. That's over £170,000.

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who got involved each year. Your support has made a big difference to many communities and helped more children and young people thrive.

You’ve helped young people like Leah, to ‘feel the beat’ and express herself through dance. Leah loves being a part of Girlguiding, and she also loves dancing. Which is why the BBC Children in Need funded project called Indepen-dance in Glasgow is really important.

Indepen-dance is the highlight of her week because it keeps Leah connected to her passion and friends. This year she’s also taken part in a few dance and music festivals with them too.

Leah has now finished 2 years at college and she’s about to start a volunteering course at college soon.

Over the years Leah has also made lots of friends, taken part in many activities and achieved lots of badges with Girlguiding too.

Janice, a leader with Leah’s unit, told us that 'girls travel many miles to be a part of their unit.'

'It's a space where they're able to relax and enjoy the company of girls who also have needs and they have freedom, respite and relaxation in being with one another - it's a joy to see.' - Janice

Our amazing volunteers help girls across the country to experience Girlguiding, supporting them to be themselves and try new things in a safe environment. With the money you helped to raise, more children and young people will be able to access similar opportunities.

4 years of fabulous fundraising with BBC Children in Need

During our first year of partnership in 2020, we celebrated Pudsey’s 40th year by asking you to take your age and do something good with it. Many of our marvellous members jumped into action in creative ways. Some of you were walking, swimming, cycling or running a distance, others were getting crafty making or baking and there were plenty of you learning new skills. All using your age to make a difference with fundraising.

In total you raised over an astonishing £380,000 and over 48,000 Pudsey badges were purchased to celebrate your achievements.

For our second year of partnership in 2021, members across the country shined bright and fundraised with a strictly twist. Whether you were putting on your dancing shoes to challenge yourselves, adding some glam with a dress up day or sprinkling your bake with extra sparkles.

You reached for the stars and dazzled by helping to raise over an incredible £120,000 with over 46,000 glitzy Pudsey badges being sold to mark your special fundraising efforts.

Partnering again in 2022 for a third year, you supercharged your fundraising by doing something you loved and making it longer, faster and bigger than ever before. You organised awesome activity–athons ranging from walking, dancing, jumping, wheeling, good deeding and much more to boost your fundraising efforts.

You raised a superb £100,000 and over 37,000 SPOTacular Pudsey badges were sold to recognise your smashing fundraising.

In our final year of partnership, our members teamed up once again to push yourselves and take on a fundraising challenge or activity you’ve never done before. You showed just how inspiring you are and that girls can do anything. Many of you challenged yourself with night hikes, football kick offs, talent shows, exercising and so many more barrier breaking activities.

Not only did you show how girls can do anything, but you also raised over a fantastic £69,000 plus over 28,000 exclusive Girlguiding themed Pudsey badges were sold.

Some of your bear-illiant activities

Your donations have made a positive difference whilst helping girls have fun, grow in confidence and make new friends in a safe space. This would be im-pawsible without you - thank you so much!

We have loved seeing how creative you got with your fundraising:

  • The awesome Wheldrake Brownies completed 5000 bearpees for their girls can do anything fundraising challenge.
  • Goal-getters Girlguiding Anglia kicked off their fundraising challenge with a Pudsey penalty shoot-out competition.
  • The wise and daring owls of Chepping and High Wycombe Division had a hoot climbing over the O2 to raise money.
  • Shining stars at 12th Dorking Brownies put on a showstopping performance at their Brownies Got Talent’ event.

Our formal partnership with BBC Children in Need will be ending

After a fantastic 4 years we’ve achieved incredible things together and our campaign has now come to an end. Thank you again for all your amazing support and involvement with this partnership.

Please do continue to get involved with BBC Children in Need activities either individually or with your unit - if you wish to.

It could be a good way to work towards Rainbows' helper, Brownies' charity, Guides' campaigning and Rangers' volunteering interest badges too.
