Understand our ODEON screenings as a parent or carer

What to expect if your child is going to an ODEON screenings

04 February 2026

Every year your child has the chance to see special Girlguiding screenings in ODEON cinemas across the UK.

Our 2026 ODEON screening hasn't been confirmed yet. We'll keep you updated via our monthly updates for parents and carers newsletter. Check your mailing preferences on GO to make sure you've opted in to receiving these emails.

With the help of Girlguiding volunteers, our partnership with ODEON gives girls unforgettable experiences at the cinema.

How our ODEON screenings work

  • We pick a film with a strong female lead that we think girls will love.
  • We let our volunteers know the film and screening dates in advance so girls in their unit can choose whether they want to attend.
  • Volunteers plan the trip based on the location and accessibility of their nearest ODEON cinema; how many girls want to go; whether there's enough adults available on the day to keep everyone safe and if they're able to collect funds in time.
  • If your child is going, you'll be asked to fill in a consent form and cover the cost of the trip.
  • We’ll let volunteers know when tickets are due to go live and send them the link via Girlguiding news – our fortnightly marketing newsletter to all volunteers.
  • Girls can get a badge specially designed to celebrate the film. This is usually provided by volunteers as part of the trip but available for parents and carers to buy too.

Get involved as a parent or carer

Unit trips take a lot of planning for volunteers, whether it’s to an ODEON cinema or another adventure away from where they usually meet.

If your child’s unit is thinking of planning a trip, there are small things you can do to help the volunteers who share their time for free. You'll also get to make a new special memory with your child!

1. Volunteer for a one-off trip

When volunteers plan trips away, they need to make sure there’s a safe ratio of adults to children. Your extra support could mean having enough adults to give your child a memory they’ll never forget.

You can help at your child’s unit twice per term without needing to formally register as a Girlguiding volunteer. If you’re helping at a one-off event like an ODEON screening, you won’t need to go through our volunteering checks.

Please speak to your child’s local unit leader if you want to help at any of their unit’s one-off events.

2. Help with pick up and drop off

Girls will have a safe pick up and drop off point if they're travelling individually. You can help by sharing lifts to and from the cinema or to your child’s local unit meeting place. Or you can help volunteers chaperone girls on public transport. To lighten the load, you could team up with another parent and carer.

Speak to your child's unit leader so you know where the pick up and drop off points are.

3. Take part in fundraising

It costs money to take girls on trips and ensure they have everything they need to stay safe. You could help with fundraising to generate some money for your child’s unit so they can have more exciting trips with Girlguiding.
