How you can make a difference where you live

You can make a difference for girls in your community by volunteering with guiding - find out how

16 February 2026

You don’t need to be an expert to volunteer at Girlguiding.

If you care about your local area and want to help girls feel more at home in the community, you’re exactly who we’re looking for.

Helping out is a great way to give back to your community and meet people who live nearby.

Helping out where you live

We want our girls to feel proud of where they grow up. When you volunteer, you help them explore their own backyard. This might look like:

  • Supervised walks: helping girls find the best spots in our local parks.
  • Community projects: sorting items for a local food bank.
  • Learning together: showing girls how to use a map, or learning how to cook a simple meal.

Meet your neighbours

One of the best things about volunteering is the people you meet. It’s a relaxed way to get to know other adults in the area.

  • Join a local group: get to know a friendly team of people who live nearby.
  • Build a network: it’s a nice way to make new friends outside of work or home.
  • Share what you know: everyone has a skill to share, whether it’s being a good listener or knowing how to pitch a tent.

Be a friendly face

Being a friendly face from the neighbourhood makes a big impact. You can help local girls see that their neighbourhood is a place where they can grow.
