How Girlguiding helps girls make friends for life

Find out how guiding gives girls a sense of community and friendship

16 February 2026

Having different groups of friends is a big help for any child.

Sometimes school can feel a bit crowded or tough. In our groups, your child will meet girls from different streets, different schools and different backgrounds. She’ll love having even more friends to chat with.

Friends who have her back

In Girlguiding, the girls really get to know each other. They grow up together and celebrate big moments as a team. They’re there for each other when they start secondary school, get exam results, or celebrate birthdays.

They learn to work together and support each other. Whether they’re earning new badges, or tackling a new challenge, they always help each other out. When things are fun, they laugh until their tummies ache! The friends they make at guiding can become friends for life.

Building community, one adventure at a time

We want the girls to feel proud of their neighbourhoods. We love to get out and about and support our local community. You might see us:

  • Helping out: we lend a hand at local fairs, run stalls at coffee mornings, and take part in community litter picks.
  • Exploring: we head to the park for games or nature hunts. We even join in with big scavenger hunts across the area!
  • Raising money: sometimes we run our own events to pay for fun trips and new adventures.

Girlguiding is great for you too!

It isn’t just for the girls! When you drop your child off, you’ll meet other local parents. It’s a brilliant way to swap stories, share tips about local schools, and feel more connected to the people living near you.

You might even get the chance to join in the fun. Some parents and carers love helping out on a cool trip or a fun activity with the group. It's a great way to be part of the adventure.
