Exploring the know myself theme
Everything you need to know about this theme
All the badges, awards, unit meeting activities and skills builders young members can do fit into one of 6 programme themes.
As our programme turns 5 years old, let’s take a deep dive into each theme.
The know myself theme helps girls understand their emotions, build confidence and, of course, learning about themselves.
It’s all about asking question like what do they enjoy? What do they value? How do feelings affect them?
Each theme is made up of skills builders, in know myself they’re network and reflect, unit meeting activities and interest badges.
Skills builders
Each skills builder has 6 stages. So when a girl starts as a Rainbow, she can get stage 1, and maybe stage 2, and by the time she’s a Ranger, she’ll work up to getting stage 6.
Network
This skills builder helps girls learn about teamwork and how to work well with others to get things done.
Reflect
Members will explore their community, culture, beliefs and values - and deepen their understanding of others’ too.
Unit meeting activities
All of our unit meeting activities, which you can buy on our online shop, have the theme, time it’ll take and difficulty level on it. Every unit meeting activity fits into a programme theme.
Interest badges
Members can carry on exploring the know myself theme outside of unit meetings by doing interest badges.
Rainbows
Rainbows can do the animal lover and family tree interest badges. They can find out everything they need to know about them in the Rainbows badge book.
Brownies
Brownies can do the collecting, local history and my rights interest badges. They can find out everything they need to know about them in the Brownies badge book.
Guides
Guides can do the aspirations, guiding history, human rights and personal brand interest badges. They can find out everything they need to know about them in the Guides badge book.
Rangers
Rangers can do the genealogy, morals and values and women’s rights interest badges. They can find out everything they need to know about them on the badge finder.
Theme award
And if a member does an interest badge, a skills builder stage and a certain number of hours of unit meeting activities from the skills for my future theme (2 hours for Rainbows, 3 hours for Brownies and 4 hours for Guides and Rangers) they can get a theme award. Each section has its own theme award, so a member could get 4 as they go through their guiding journey.
If a girl completes 2 theme awards from her current section, she’ll get her bronze award. If she gets 4 theme awards from her current section, she’ll get her silver award. And if she earns 6 theme awards from her section, and does an extra challenge, she’ll get her gold award.
