The challenge
In June, with GO Outdoors, we asked you to do some activities from our camp skills builder and tell us what you did on Facebook. From designing fantastic tents to backwoods cooking dinner parties, your responses are a wonderful celebration of the adventurous spirit at the heart of Girlguiding.
We’ve picked a handful of your comments to share in this blog. Go to the post to check out all of the amazing things that groups got up to.
Please note that some submissions have been edited for clarity and length.
Your stories
4th Hale Brownies
The 4th Hale Brownie leaders commented:
4th Hale Brownies have been embracing the camping spirit while working on Camp Skills Stage 3 this term! They've learned fire safety, cooked tasty snacks like chocolate bananas, and built great teamwork skills. Their confidence and independence have grown as they prepare for their first camp.
We’re ending the term with pioneering fun - building camp gadgets and putting their new skills to the test. It’s been amazing to see their enthusiasm and support for each other!’
16th Bath Rainbows
Rosemary, the Rainbows leader, told us:
Our Rainbows came up with some imaginative designs for the tent-tastic activity. Their designs were judged by a guide leader based on how they’d stand up to wind and rain, as well as how big and comfortable they were. A great way to finish stage 1 of their camp skills builder!’
2nd St Ive Brownies
Laura told us what her Brownies did:
We've enjoyed doing stage 2 of the camp skills builder this term - from getting dressed in the dark with torches to fire safety with a visit to our local Fire Station. We used our new skills to build campfires, using both matches and flint and steels to light them, before making s’mores. We also did lots of Have Adventures UMAs, including making bug hotels, listening to nature, survival skills and tracking skills. We've had a blast!’
Brookvale Rangers
Brookvale Rangers explained what their group got up to:
Brookvale Rangers zipped through the high ropes, raced go-karts across the field, cooked a cracking campfire lunch, and built an epic raft that stayed afloat! They even pitched tents like pros and supported each other through every challenge!’
