Ideas from the taskforce panel
Themes discussed in our taskforce after changes to our equality and diversity policy
Check out the latest general updates about our taskforce.
The taskforce panel met regularly to explore future opportunities for trans girls and trans women to connect with and be supported by Girlguiding, while operating within our equality and diversity policy. Between January and March 2026, each individual panel member gave over 17 hours of their time and they’ve done a brilliant job at discussing the different ideas submitted.
What was the taskforce panel?
The panel was a group of 16 people who met regularly between January and March 2026 to listen to all voices including the wider Girlguiding community through the taskforce. It met regularly to have big conversations, capture ideas, feedback and examples of good practice, share learnings and different ways of supporting people.
It's important to note, the taskforce was a safe space to listen and explore what might be possible with a range of ideas. It didn't seek to reverse the policy change or make any big decisions about the future of Girlguiding.
We promised to be transparent
At every meeting, the panel are talking through different groups of ideas from the taskforce. We promised to be as transparent as we can about what’s happened in the meetings, including the themes being discussed. These were just ideas, not final decisions or plans.
What is a taskforce theme?
A theme is a collection of responses or ideas shared from the taskforce. The panel looked at 3 themes:
- Ways to connect with and support trans girls and trans women. Like exploring how we might create new spaces or groups.
- Changes to how Girlguiding works. Like exploring how we might make changes to the way Girlguiding is run, while still operating within our equality and diversity policy.
- Showing support for trans girls, trans women and the trans+ community. Like exploring how we might hold events, run activities, or campaign.
We grouped ideas together to make it easier for the panel to discuss how those opportunities could work in the future. The ideas themselves could be anything from creating new activities to changing the way Girlguiding is run.
Showing support for trans girls, trans women and the trans+ community
One theme the panel discussed was showing support for trans girls, trans women and the trans+ community. This theme explored how we might hold events, run activities, or campaign. It was all about how we can stay true to our values of caring and inclusive.
Future suggestions
Here are some suggestions for the future that the panel discussed:
Create new activities
- Release Girlguiding branded activities for girls to show allyship. Like unit meeting activities (UMAs) or toppers.
- Find a way to educate young members about trans+ communities.
- Support volunteers to deliver any activities.
Run our own Girlguiding events
- Host activity days or community outreach events that welcome and include everyone, including trans+ communities.
- Support volunteers to deliver these events.
- Make sure events also include regular guiding activities like our UMAs, skills builders, interest badges and toppers.
Work with others
Alongside the panel, we’re also worked with multiple groups of people who fed in their specialist knowledge.
This includes people with lived experience, inclusion specialists, young people, external organisations and senior Girlguiding volunteers and staff.
Staying true to our values
