Supporting our community

A message to our trans, non-binary and gender diverse members

02 December 2025

On 24 March 2026 we shared updated guidance about what this decision means for current members

A personal message from Tracy Foster, Chief Guide, Felicity Oswald, Girlguiding CEO, and Denise Wilson, Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Our equality and diversity policy changed on 2 December 2025, following the Supreme Court's decision on sex and gender. For more on the policy change and why we made this decision, read our statement for members.

We know that the changes to our equality and diversity policy will be upsetting and difficult for some members of our community. We want to reaffirm that we remain allies to trans girls, trans women and the trans community, and are deeply grateful for the continued contributions to Girlguiding. We recognise that you need our solidarity now more than ever.

If you are affected, please contact us so we can offer individual support, and talk through the options available to you. You can reach us at [email protected].

We’re committed to supporting you through this change. We have set up a taskforce to explore new future opportunities for trans girls and trans women to connect with and be supported by Girlguiding, while operating within our equality and diversity policy.

Read updates about the taskforce after changes to our equality and diversity policy.

We know girls care deeply about fairness, kindness and inclusion, and we will always be a space that empowers girls to care loudly and champion their values.

Thank you for everything you bring to Girlguiding. You are valued and we will continue to find ways to recognise and celebrate the contributions of trans people within our organisation.

-Tracy, Felicity and Denise
