Becoming a trainer

Become a trainer with Girlguiding and support our fantastic volunteers to deliver great experiences to girls

Support our volunteers to be their best by becoming a trainer.

We currently have around 500 trainers giving their time across GirlguidingNew trainers are always welcome to ensure that we can offer regular, high-quality training opportunities to all volunteers.

Why become a trainer?

Step into a role that inspires! As a trainer, you'll spark confidence and motivation in our volunteers, empowering them to deliver amazing guiding experiences for girls across the UK. You’ll be a champion of learning, a role model for others, and a key player in creating consistency and excellence throughout our organisation. It’s a chance to make a real impact while growing your own skills and connecting with a passionate community.

Types of trainer roles

Becoming a trainer with Girlguiding opens up a world of exciting possibilities! Whether you love connecting face-to-face or prefer the flexibility of online delivery, there’s a training style to suit you. You can choose to deliver ready-made sessions or get creative and design your own—whatever fits your strengths and interests.

As well as the general trainer role, there are 3 additional trainer roles if you'd like to deliver 1 of the following topics:

  1. Safer guiding trainer.
  2. 1st response trainer.
  3. Peer education trainer.

If you’re interested in delivering 1st response, safer guiding, or basic training for new peer educators, you’ll hold both a subject-specific trainer role and the generic trainer role.

How much time will I need?

Although there’s no set timescale for completing the trainer development programme, we imagine it will take between 6 and 12 months. This will give enough time to complete the online learning, as well as the practical activities.
