Angela Salt to step down as Girlguiding CEO
A statement from Denise Wilson, chair of the board of trustees and Tracy Foster, chief guide
4 February 2025: On behalf of Girlguiding, we are announcing that after 6 years, Angela Salt has decided to step down as CEO and will leave Girlguiding at the end of June.
Angela has led Girlguiding passionately and with relentless drive, ensuring we do all we can to reach more girls, and to help create an equal world where girls can be happy, safe and fulfil their potential.
In her time as CEO, Angela has steered the organisation through an extraordinary time – including the pandemic and through recovery, underpinned by Girlguiding’s 2020 strategy and updating the Girlguiding brand. She has also strengthened our governance, financial and organisational resilience against an ever-changing external backdrop.
Angela has worked hard to influence decision makers and create a more equal world for girls. She has been a champion for our advocates and with them has helped shape important changes for girls in online safety, period poverty and public sexual harassment.
With over 300,000 girls and 80,000 volunteers across the UK, Girlguiding provides an important space and a voice for girls and young women. Through its ambitious plans to reach and involve even more girls and young women over the next 10 years, it will continue to improve the lives of girls and grow their confidence.
Denise Wilson, chair of the board of trustees, said, ‘We thank Angela for her leadership, dedication and significant achievements as CEO of Girlguiding in the last six years. There is no doubt she leaves Girlguiding in a better place and has more than played her part in boosting the well-being of girls & young women of the future.’
Tracy Foster, chief guide, said, ‘Thank you to Angela for her leadership over the past 6 years and her time, care and commitment to supporting our 80,000 volunteers across the UK who dedicate their time every week for Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers. Her unwavering dedication to improving the lives of girls and making it an equal world has been an inspiration. Thank you on behalf of all the volunteers and the chief guide team.’
Angela Salt, CEO, said, ‘I would like to thank the Girlguiding chair and trustees, past and present, for the faith, confidence and trust you have given to me.
‘On my first day at Girlguiding, 6 years ago, I said that I was humbled and privileged to lead Girlguiding and I feel the same today. Thank you to the staff and volunteers for all we have achieved together as one team. There is no finer cause than helping girls be their best selves, making a difference in their communities and the world. I am proud to have played a small part in helping girls know they can do anything.’
The recruitment process for Angela’s successor is already underway, and further announcements will be made in due course.
