How we celebrated 100 years of World Thinking Day

From sledging and archery to s’mores and sponsored walks

18 March 2026

We celebrated 100 years of World Thinking Day this year on 22 February.

And members, units and local areas all marked the occasion in so many brilliant ways!

World Thinking Day is a celebration of 10 million girls worldwide that has taken place on every 22 February since 1926. It remains a day for all girl guides and girl scouts to think of each other, feel connected to the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and celebrate all around the world.

From sledging to s’mores and sponsored walks, here’s how members in the UK (and with WAGGGS worldwide!) recognised this special day:

Petworth division celebrated with cake!' - Sussex Girlguiding

And here’s how Pioneer, our adventure and youth panel, celebrated too…

'We held an event for the families of our Brownies and Guides where they did activities in groups. The activities were based on different eras of Girlguiding - I did 2002-26 with my Brownie group and 1909-29 with my Guides. They then presented what they'd learned. We also taught them ‘Thunderation’ and ‘This little guiding light of mine’!' - Xanthe

'We did the South West England Thinking Day Challenge!' - Sophia

My unit celebrated World Thinking Day every year in different ways. This year we played guiding games from other countries around the world. We also did our annual quiz about the history of Girlguiding and how it began. This year we spent time learning about the history and traditions of the different world centres, and shared photos and memories from international trips!' - Zara
