Celebrating 1 year of the adventure map

Helping you find local adventure sites

27 February 2025

In February 2024 we launched our adventure map. We wanted to help you easily locate where you can do outdoor adventures with Girlguiding.

The map profiles activity centres, including Girlguiding country and region sites, PGL and independent centres, residential and camping spots and places where you can do water-related activities.

Finding adventure sites near you

You told us you wanted to find local adventure venues near you, where you could take your girls easily and accessibly, so we created the map to help.

Now a year later we’re thrilled to see how many of you have been using it! Since its launch it has received nearly 22,000 views, with a total of 11,590 members using it to find adventure.

Where and what

We’ve profiled a wide breadth of sites from camping locations to activity centres. There are currently 464 venues on the map, with 35% being Girlguiding owned properties.

If it’s a centre you’re after you could go to Blackland Farm, Hautbois or organise your own takeover weekend at your local PGL site.

For camping sites why not try Benone, or Carmichael Guide Centre campsite. Looking for a residential up north? What about South Shields Guide HQ or Alasger Guide Hall?

Across the UK

You can find sites right across all of the 9 countries and regions from the South West to Ulster.

We know that the proportion across the UK is varied at the moment. We want to add more sites to fully represent what's available in each country and region. So we're always on the lookout for more sites to share.

If you’ve got a favourite local place to go for a residential that you can’t find on the map, please let us know via the webform and we’ll start the process of getting it added as soon as we can.

Resources for residentials

To accompany the map, we want to make it as easy as possible to take your girls away on overnight adventures. Our new pre-filled risk assessments for adventure activities inside and outside the unit, residentials and international trips, are designed to make volunteers lives easier. These can be found on our risk assessments page under risk assessments for activities.

And watch out for our updated Going Away With scheme resources, coming in summer.

Thank you

Thank you for everything that you’re doing leading outdoor adventures with your girls. We know, as you do, that adventure helps build confidence and resilience in girls and young women. We appreciate every moment you spend providing them with such amazing opportunities.
