How do I become a volunteer?

Become a volunteer in 3 simple steps:

  1. Register your interest - fill out our form and give your details. We need to know where you are based and how we can contact you.
  2. We'll be in touch - someone from the local volunteer team in your area will contact you for a chat, usually within 7 days.
  3. Tell us what you want to do - during this chat let us know about your skills and how much time you have to spare. This will help us to find the right volunteer role for you and start our recruitment check process.

Why volunteer with Girlguiding?

By volunteering with us, you’ll be helping girls build their confidence, have adventures and learn new skills. It doesn’t matter what your experience or background is, or how much time you have.

Plus, volunteering for Girlguiding is a great way of meeting new people and taking a break from your daily routine. You can also build your own skills by taking our leadership development qualification, becoming a first aider or qualified outdoor activity instructor. Whatever it is you’re looking for, there’ll be something in it for you.

Who can volunteer?

Anyone! There’s no requirement to have been involved in guiding before, and we’ve got lots of opportunities for young people too.

Get involved from the age of 13 upwards – as a young leader,  for your DofE or as a peer educator. We’ve got roles to suit all ages and interests.

Plus, becoming a role model doesn't need a full-time commitment – there are all sorts of flexible ways to get involved. Parents looking to volunteer at their local unit could join a parent rota or help share a skill or passion. We also welcome students and teenagers looking for a volunteer opportunity to build their CV and develop skills for the future.

Whether you want to help behind the scenes, at special events, or get involved every week, there’s loads of ways to inspire girls with Girlguiding.

Can men volunteer for Girlguiding?

Yes! Although some of our roles are women-only, there are opportunities for men too.

At Girlguiding, we want everyone to feel welcome and have an equal sense of belonging. We value and celebrate the different experiences of our volunteers. We’re proud to welcome people from all backgrounds including disabled people, LGBTQ+ people, people of colour and those of all religions or philosophical beliefs and none.  You can read more about our diversity and inclusion strategy and what we have achieved so far, and what it means to us to be including all.
