An update about Glenbrook

We’re pleased to share an important announcement about Glenbrook, one of Girlguiding’s activity centres which closed in December 2023.

Following a carefully considered sales process, Glenbrook will have new owners. The new owners are local residents who live in Hope Valley, and have knowledge and respect for Glenbrook, its history, and its decades of use by Girlguiding members.

The new owners plan to run Glenbrook as a camp and caravan site with a café, offering subsidised access for groups and working closely with the local community. Their aim is to keep Glenbrook as a welcoming activity centre and hub and have already secured a camping license for the centre.

Throughout the process of selling the activity centres, we have worked hard and with care to act in the best interests of Girlguiding, all our members across the UK, and in accordance with charity law.

Denise Wilson, Chair of Girlguiding’s Board of Trustees, and Tracy Foster, Chief Guide and Trustee, said: “We’re proud to see Glenbrook continue as a space for adventure and connection. The new owners’ plans mean the site will remain open and accessible to the local community and Girlguiding members alike, ensuring our legacy lives on.”

The money from the sale of the activity centres is in a designated fund that will honour the legacy of the properties and enable us to invest in the future of Girlguiding. Our new fund is here to support girls by providing grants and better experiences. It is investing in adventure so girls can try new things and build their confidence, and supporting our future by improving our digital tools and making our archive accessible to all. Some of these historical pieces from our archive have been available to view and celebrate in our London HQ shop since May 2025.

Adventure at Girlguiding

The money from the sale of the activity centres has helped us to launch our new adventure fund. Experiencing adventure and time outdoors helps to build essential skills in leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving, and we are committed to bringing more adventure to girls that is accessible, affordable and local. With the new fund, we are providing grants for girls, putting on more events, and providing resources to bring more adventure to all our members.

In 2025 so far, the accessing adventure fund enabled over 11,000 more girls to experience adventure. And over 150,000 adventure badges for girls have been sold since they launched in 2023.
