Guiding gave me career confidence

How guiding helped inspire Brownie leader Amy to have the career she dreamed of in engineering

Guiding showed me that girls have no limits to what we can do if we go and get it.

I would not be the person I am today without Girlguiding. I have been in guiding since Rainbows and it gave me the confidence to go for any activity or role a boy could. Guiding showed me that we have no limits to what we can do if we go and get it.

I'm fascinated by how things work

I am now a third-year mechanical apprentice at Delphi Systems. I love getting my hands dirty and am fascinated by how things work. I'm interested in physics and maths, which led me to look at engineering.

Taking STEM to schools

I recently helped out at a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) day at a local school with members of my unit. There was a 3D printer and lots of machined parts that the children could interact with. They could see some of the things you can make with a lathe or milling machine.

Seeing me as an engineer as well as a Brownie leader opened their eyes to new career possibilities that not many of them knew existed.

Girls can do anything

Brownies can try their Space badge or get Inventing while Guides could work towards their Investigating badge
