Girlguiding to say farewell to Chief Executive Julie Bentley

17 April 2018

Today we announce that our Chief Executive Julie Bentley will be stepping down after almost six years to take up the role of chief executive at Action for Children.

Over her tenure, Julie has overseen a wide-scale modernisation programme including a major review of governance and organisational structures, developing the charity’s first five-year strategic plan, and modernising the guiding offer to meet the needs of girls today.

Julie drove perception-busting initiatives, ensuring that girls and young womens’ voices are at the heart of the charity and supporting them to be powerful public advocates about issues affecting their lives.

She has been a passionate champion for Girlguiding and the amazing work our 109,000 volunteers do to change girls’ lives and provide fun, adventurous opportunities.

Val Elliott, Interim Chair of Trustees, said:

Julie has made a hugely valuable contribution during her time in post and Girlguiding has moved forward significantly under her leadership. The board of trustees is sorry to see her leave but we are delighted she has been appointed to such a prestigious position at Action for Children and she goes with our very warm thanks and best wishes.

Julie Bentley said:

Girlguiding is such a powerful force for good in the lives of girls and young women in the UK. The dedication of our amazing volunteers and staff teams is extraordinary. I know this much loved organisation will continue to develop and adapt to ensure it stays a relevant, fresh, first-class service for girls and young women into the future. It will always have a dedicated supporter and champion in me.

Julie will be leaving at the end of June and Deputy CEO Ruth Marvel will become acting chief executive until a permanent appointment is made.
