Action-packed bank holiday weekend at our festival, Wellies and Wristbands

29 August 2016

Two thousand Girlguiding members enjoyed an action packed Bank Holiday weekend at a girl only festival near Lyndhurst

The girls camped beneath the stars at Wellies and Wristbands, the Girlguiding festival which took place from 26  to 29 August at the charity’s activity centre Foxlease.

During the four day festival the groups of Guides and members of The Senior Section explored the site and were able to choose from a variety of exciting activities such as abseiling, zorbing and kayaking. And in this exciting summer of sport the girls had the chance to develop their football skills with expert coaching sessions run by the FA.

As well as the huge assortment of sports and activities, the girls also soaked up the atmosphere in the evening when there was live music on the stage from the likes of The Voice winner Kevin Simm and X Factor band Alien Uncovered.

Wellies and Wristbands has been a great experience and one I will never forget. The football festival definitely added to all the other opportunities here - Lara Gell, aged 11 from 3rd Finchamspted Guides

Girlguiding is the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK and this year’s Wellies and Wristbands was the fourth time the festival had taken place.

Football sessions at Wellies and Wristbands were a joint initiative between The FA and Continental Tyres. Girls had the chance to get into football through a variety of activities including coaching, goalkeeping, refereeing, interactive games, mini matches and the ContiWarmUp Programme - the coaching programme from Continental Tyres endorsed by the FA.
