Guide Camp Permit

Learn how to organise and run a camp from start to finish

I think that Pack Holidays and Guide camps have given me the confidence to be away from home. I have had to be independent and learn skills such as cooking and looking after myself and others. It has given me the confidence to do things such as performing for others - Elizabeth, Guide.

One of the best things about guiding is the camps and outdoor adventures

At Guides, you have the opportunity to plan and deliver your very own camp by working through eight modules that make up the Camp Permit.

By completing the permit you will develop leadership, planning, budget management and organisation skills. You will have shown how reliable and responsible you are, and that you can run an event from start to finish.

What you need to do

To get your Camp Permit, you'll need to:

  • plan a camp
  • decide which activities you'll do
  • make sure everything is safe
  • plan your food and how you will cook it
  • make health and first aid arrangements
  • organise your Patrol to look after the campsite facilities
  • with your Patrol, plan and carry out your programme of events.

When can I do it?

To start working on your Camp Permit, you need to have gained your Camper Advanced interest badge and be at least 12 years old. If you are 12, you can lead a Patrol camp alongside your unit camp. When you are 13 you can run a Patrol camp without your unit.
