Get cooking mindfully
Help girls to think about how food is produced, and whether producers are paid fairly
- Ask girls to form small groups, give them a budget, and explain that they must plan a recipe using as many Fairtrade ingredients as possible.
- Go to the local supermarket to look for Fairtrade ingredients (or they could do this between the meetings)
- At the next meeting, the groups should cook their dish. Before the judging begins, each group should explain the dish, the price of the Fairtrade products compared to other products and whether it was hard to find the ingredients they needed.
Take it further
You could set up an evening café and have family or friends come and enjoy your culinary delights to raise funds for your unit. Or you could donate the money to a charity your unit would like to support, so you are helping other people as well as the farmers who produced the ingredients in your meals.
Discussing world issues can result in lively debate. Make sure everyone gets a say and manage any challenges from girls by following the guidance set out in our Guiding Conversation on behaviour.
