Make your own bird feeds

It's messy but the girls - and the birds - will love it.

  1. Tie a piece of string around the top of the pine cone. Make it quite long as you will use it to hang the cone up in the garden.
  2. Coat your pine cone liberally with the lard. This is really messy so it’s a good idea to have an apron on.
  3. Pour some bird seed into a bowl and roll the cone around in it. Lots of seed should stick to the fat.
  4. Wrap the cones in foil so they can be taken home to hang up where birds can reach them.
