Represent Girlguiding at a WAGGGS Leadership event

Build friendships across borders and step outside your comfort zone at WAGGGS’ Juliette Low seminar!

What's happening?

The Juliette Low seminar is WAGGGS’ flagship leadership development event for young women aged 18-30. WAGGGS have been providing this inter-cultural, inspirational and international experience since 1932. The Juliette Low seminar aims to build worldwide friendships and help young women out of their comfort zone, as well as empowering the next generation of leaders. This event is all about empowering participants with the leadership practices and mindsets they need to succeed. The theme for JLS 2024 is peace.

When?

29 September to 5 October 2024.

Where?

In person at one of the world centres.

How much?

The delegate fee and reasonable travel expenses will be covered by Girlguiding.

What will I do?

  • April, May and June: participants will be on Campfire (WAGGGS’ digital home) for 3 months of blended learning through online sessions, e- learning courses, global connections and patrol meetings.
  • July, August and September: participants will continue their blended learning and start their 100 Girls Projects.
  • 29 September to 5 October: participants attend an in-person event at Nuestra Cabaña, Kusafiri or Sangam. Please note: these events will be bilingual to offer all 4 WAGGGS languages to participants.
  • October, November and December: participants continue their 100 Girls Project and attend the online JLS 2024 Closing Party in December.

You’ll be given the tools to practice your leadership and develop the mindset you need to succeed. You’ll experience new cultures and gain awareness and understanding of how guiding works on a global level and make life-long friends.

At the end of the seminar, you’ll also undertake your own 100 Girls project, where you’ll empower 100 girls aged 12-18 in your local guiding area to raise their voices and practice leadership.

Your patrol mentor will support you with your project during the seminar through to the completion of your project.

How much time will I need to give?

  • April to June: approximately 7 hours a month dedicated to online learning
  • July to September: approximately 10 hours a month dedicated to developing and starting their 100 Girls Projects
  • Full availability during the week of 29 September to 5 October for the in-person event portion of the programme
  • October to December: approximately 10 hours a month dedicated to finish their 100 Girls Project before 31 December 2024
