Join our new adventure and international youth panel

For Girlguiding members aged 12 to 18. Deadline Sunday 30 June 2024.

Have your voice heard and help shape the future of Girlguiding.

We’re looking for young people aged 12 to 18 to join us on our brand new adventure and international working group.

What's the adventure and international working group?

This new working group will be made up of around 20 young members from all across Girlguiding. We have regular online meetings and take part in extra opportunities and workshops to shape the adventure and international offer across Girlguiding to make sure that girls, and their voices, are represented.

We work with a range of staff and volunteers – for example, the national adventure teams, ED&I (equity, diversity & inclusion), programme, and chief guide teams.

You’ll get to:

  • Share your thoughts and experiences with other young people to inspire more members to have adventures.
  • Work together with senior staff and volunteers to shape the future of Girlguiding’s adventure and international work for all young members.
  • Work with us to explore how Girlguiding can become more girl-led.
  • Gain leadership skills and develop your confidence.

Why should I take part?

  • Have your say on what’s important to you, and work with us to make the changes you want to see.
  • Meet young people from guiding units across the whole of the UK.
  • Build skills for your future that will look fantastic on your CV or university application.
  • Taking part can contribute towards your Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) or Queen’s Guide Award.
  • Take part in some amazing opportunities such as shaping new adventure offers for Girlguiding, working with us to be more sustainable, creating adventure resources and much more!

Who can apply?

If you’re aged 12 to 18 and an active member of Girlguiding you can apply. This means you need to be part of Girlguiding. For example, a guide, a ranger or a young leader.

We're looking for young people who can represent the diversity of Girlguiding, from all countries, regions and backgrounds. You don’t need any previous experience of youth leadership, just the passion to make Girlguiding the best it can be for all our young members!

How does it work?

If you're successful, you'll be offered a space by the end of July 2024. From the 13 – 15 September, we'll get together for an induction weekend where you'll meet the other youth panel members and the group leaders. You'll take part in fun workshops, teambuilding and learn all about your new role!

From October, we'll start our regular meetings, with other opportunities to get involved along the way. We'll mostly meet virtually, but there will be other chances to all get together in person.

You’ll be part of the group for 1 year to start with, but with the chance to stay longer if you’d like to.

Before you apply, please check that you're free for our induction weekend which will take place from Friday 13 – Sunday 15 September. Travel, accommodation, activities and food are organised and covered by Girlguiding!

How can I apply?

Complete your application online by Sunday 30 June 2024 at 10pm for the chance to take part.

You'll need your membership number to apply. If you don’t know it, ask your leader and they'll be able to look it up for you.

There’s 2 questions for you to answer, 1 asking about what your favourite memory of Girlguiding is and a second about why you’d like to be a part of the adventure and international working group.

There’s no minimum word limit. As long as we can see your thoughts and personality, that’s all that matters. Writing not your thing? Feel free to send us a video application or voice note to the email address below.
