Become an independent member of the Girlguiding Audit & Risk Committee

Applications close 6 January 2025

We’re looking for one of our members to join Girlguiding’s Audit & Risk Committee as an independent (non-trustee) member.

Our Board of Trustees is responsible for setting Girlguiding’s strategy and direction, making key decisions and overseeing how we run.

Our Board delegates some responsibilities to committees to examine key areas in greater depth and make recommendations. These committees are made up of Trustees, plus at least one independent (non-Trustee) member, who brings specialist experience or expertise. You will join our Audit & Risk Committee in this role.

As an independent member of the Audit & Risk Committee, you’ll have the opportunity to play a critical role in Girlguiding’s governance. You'll help ensure that Girlguiding can identify and manage risk effectively, has appropriate controls and policies in place, and complies with relevant legislation and good practice.

There will usually be 4 Audit & Risk Committee meetings per year, held either at Girlguiding headquarters in London or online. The role is voluntary, but we’ll pay your expenses and provide an induction and training programme.

Who we’re looking for

You’ll bring perspective on the overall strategic and operational risk areas for Girlguiding and how this impacts on policies and delivery for units, volunteers and parents. You’ll have the skills and experience in Audit & Risk to contribute to the governance oversight of Girlguiding, supported by induction and training that we’ll provide.

We’re especially interested in hearing from people from communities and backgrounds that are underrepresented on our Committees. This includes people of colour, disabled people, LGBT+ people, people from minority faith groups, and people facing socio-economic disadvantage. By completing our diversity questionnaire and including it with your application, you'll be helping us to make sure we're working inclusively.

How do I apply?

  • Complete the application form, referee details and skills matrix in the information and application pack.
  • Create a personal statement explaining why you want to become an Audit & Risk Committee member and why you think you should be appointed.
  • Email your completed form and personal statement to [email protected] by 9am on Monday 6 January 2025.
  • If you want to, complete our diversity questionnaire and email it to us along with your application and personal statement. This is voluntary and will not impact your application, but helps us to continue improving our policies and practices. The information you supply on this form will be kept confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside the Governance team.
