Digital safeguarding policy consultation
Have your say on our Digital safeguarding policy. Deadline: 9pm, Sunday 28 March
We’re consulting volunteers on our Digital Safeguarding policy.
What is the policy?
- sets out Girlguiding’s commitment to applying the same rigorous level of safeguarding protection online as in person
- sets out the expectations of all Girlguiding members and volunteers (as well as staff, associated contractors, third party providers and users) to ensure the protection of children, young people, volunteers and staff online, raise concerns and report inappropriate online incidents
- covers all of Girlguiding's online and digital activities.
What are we asking you about?
We’d like your views on whether the policy could be clearer, and whether you understand what is expected of you, or if there are parts that don't make sense, are confusing, or use unnecessary jargon.
We would also like to know whether you have used the policy since we introduced it in June 2020, and if there is anything you feel that is not included in the policy. If you or your unit have used the policy, have you experienced any issues or unintended consequences as a result?
We would also like to know a bit about you – such as what country or region you are from, your main role in guiding, which section you are associated with, and if you have completed the Digital Safeguarding E-learning course.
Why are we looking at this now?
As part of our commitment to developing a rewarding volunteer experience we are reviewing all new policies one year after approval to see how they work in practice and if there are improvements that we can make in order to support you and your unit in following this policy.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic more Girlguiding activities are taking place online. Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do at Girlguiding and we have a responsibility to protect and promote the safety of girls, young women and adults, which is just as important in the digital world as it is elsewhere.
We value your feedback and encourage you to share your experiences with us.
How can I participate?
The consultation is open until 9pm on Sunday 28 March, and is open to all volunteers in Girlguiding. You will need to refer to the Digital Safeguarding policy on our website as you complete it.
