What will you do as medical advisor?

The Girlguiding awards committee meet twice a year to consider nominations for the three Girlguiding awards. 

You will be responsible for:

  • determining nominations with the committee
  • advising the committee on the medical conditions of nominations
  • ensuring consistency in the consideration and granting of awards
  • reviewing and updating the awards criteria, guidance and documentation
  • providing guidance to country and region awards committees
  • promoting thanks & recognition

This is a great opportunity for you to gain experience of working in Girlguiding at a national level and as part of a committee. To develop your skills in communication and committee working.  It may also be a stepping stone for you to move into other roles in the future.

How much time will you need to give?

Awards committee members serve a term of 3 years, with the opportunity to extend this by a further 2 years.

You will need to attend 2 full day meetings a year, where you will consider around 20 nominations which you will be given to read over in advance. Occasionally you will need to advise on emergency Guiding Star award nominations by email or phone.

There may also be the opportunity to take part in additional activities such as staffing an award stand at the county commissioner conference.

Who can apply?

All Girlguiding members over 18 who have the relevant skills, knowledge, time and experience can apply.
