New guiding term

Your child’s unit is likely to follow the same dates as their school’s term time. It might start around the same time as the school term or a bit later.

Be sure to check with your unit leader when they’re planning to go back so you have enough time to get prepared and buy new uniform.

February 2025

Grow-along with Knorr (11 February 2025)

We’re teaming up with our partners at Knorr® and encouraging girls to give flavour a grow. Throughout spring we'll be supporting them to grow their own herbs and use them to try new flavours in their meals.

Look out for our handy tips to get growing and expert tips from Knorr® to help get your taste buds tingling. Your child can sprout further and use their new skills to achieve an interest badge too. We’ll be sharing our planting progress at HQ - come grow along with us!

World Thinking Day (22 February 2025)

Girlguiding celebrates World Thinking Day every year as part of WAGGGS. WAGGGS is the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts that brings people in guiding together from across the world.

World Thinking Day’s theme in 2025 will reflect on our story as a worldwide guiding movement. Your girl’s unit might have something planned for this special day to earn their World Thinking Badge 2025.

March 2025

World Book Day (6 March 2025)

The mission of World Book Day is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.

Do you know if your child will be dressing up with their school or Girlguiding unit for World Book Day? Find out in advance so you can be prepared.

International Women's Day (8 March 2025)

It's International Women's Day on 8 March, a day to mark the achievements of women and promote gender equality across the world. We've created a new colouring activity to help young members think about the women who've empowered or inspired them. We also have a brand new International Women’s Day badge which is available for you to buy now. It’s a ‘fun badge’ which means girls don’t have to formally earn it through our programme so you can buy it as a parent or carer too!

Earth Day (22 April 2025)

Did you know 84% of our young members say it’s important to them to do something about climate change? As part of our vision to having a world where all girls feel safe and happy, we’ll be shouting about Earth Day in 2025.

Stay tuned for how you and your child can get involved. In the meantime, read about our environmental plan.

May 2025

Camping season begins!

Lots of camping trips will take place between May and July so make sure you have everything you need. Here’s some things you might want to explore:

June 2025

Brownie Takeover Weekend with PGL in Dalguise, Perthshire (13-15 June 2025)

Set within a beautiful, wooded valley Dalguise is the ideal place for an action-packed weekend. And during one of our annual takeovers, it’s a great chance for girls to come together and experience a unique Brownie adventure at PGL. Each day they’ll achieve their height adventure badges on the zip wires, climbing walls and giant swings. Then after a campfire and dinner, they can collapse into bunks in the woodland lodges or converted stable blocks, ready for the next day’s fun.

July 2025

72 new interest badges are launching

Interest badges are a type of Girlguiding badge girls can earn by exploring new interests or diving deeper into their passions. They can be done with their units or at home!

We’re working with members to double the number of interest badges available so your child gets to have even more experiences with Girlguiding.

Around this time, it’s likely your child’s unit leader will ask you to cover the cost of the new badge book or encourage you to complete them at home.

August and September 2025

New guiding term

The new guiding term will start in August or September around the same time schools go back. It depends where you live.

Does your child have everything they need for a new term at Girlguiding? We’ve made a list for you, so you don’t miss a thing.

October 2025

Black History Month

At Girlguiding, our commitment to recognising Black history reaches beyond this month. We have a range of activities in collaboration with The Black Curriculum that girls can complete with their unit.

Here are some of the activities your child might do for Black History Month.

Brownie Takeover Weekend with PGL in Marchants Hill, Surrey (3-5 October 2025)

At Marchants Hill there’s never a dull moment. With a massive programme, modern accommodation and a purpose-built lake, the centre is ready to welcome your child on her next adventure. Surrounded by 45 acres of woodland, girls can do a range of activities including abseiling, archery and canoeing. It's a great place for your daughter to explore the outdoors and grow in confidence!

International Day of the Girl (11 October 2025)

This is a day recognised globally that empowers girls and amplifies their voices. That’s what we aim to do all the time at Girlguiding so we celebrate it every year.

Could you offer an hour of your time with your local unit to share something that will empower girls? It could be a skill you use for your job or a fun activity you do with your child at home. We’ll also be launching an International Day of the Girl badge you can buy as a parent or carer!

November 2025

Remembrance Sunday (9 November 2025)

This is traditionally marked on 11 November or the nearest Sunday to this date. Some units will choose to commemorate the day with some special activities. You could do some of them at home with your child.

Keep an eye out for our special 2025 remembrance badges in partnership with The Royal British Legion. 50% of the profits from the badges will go to The Royal British Legion and Poppy Scotland.

December 2025

Look out for ODEON screenings

Thanks to volunteers who plan day trips, we get to provide unforgettable memories at the cinema with our friends at ODEON. Every winter, we hold screenings of films with a girl lead. Around this time, volunteers might ask you to cover the cost of tickets and trip expenses. Look out for more updates later this year!

Here's what to expect if your child is going on an ODEON trip.

That's it for now. Come back to this page for regular updates on key dates and limited partner offers this year!
