What will I do?
By joining Action for Change, you'll be part of an incredible year-long journey to take part in your very own social action project - gathering the skills, knowledge and confidence you need along the way.
The experience you gain will help you in other areas of your life too. For example, you'll learn all about:
- project planning
- persuasive communication – written and spoken
- powerful storytelling
- using social media for change
- writing about your experiences for your CV
- and lots more.
Plus, Action for Change will contribute towards element 4 of your Queen's Guide Award - Service in Guiding, if you:
- attend the residential weekend
- take part in one-to-one catch ups with their Coordinator
- develop a social action project until the end of the Action for Change year (one year from the inspiration weekend).
An inspirational kick-off weekend
Your year in Action for Change will start with a fun residential weekend with other young members from your area. This weekend will be packed with loads of interactive sessions and talks from motivational speakers - who've previously included campaigner Yas Necati and Laura Bates! It will give you a chance to develop your ideas and start planning how you can make a difference.
A network of amazing girls
You'll be part of an active network in your area - so you can stay in touch with the friends you make, share ideas and work together on projects. You'll get individual support from a skilled Network Coordinator, who will help you to develop your plan and solve any problems you may come up against.
Girlguiding will send you loads of regular exciting news and things to do, you'll get support to package up your successes to look fantastic on your CV - and you'll get a badge at the end, of course!
Who can apply?
We're looking for young members who are:
- prepared to commit to the project for a year
- excited and ready to make change happen!
The age you can apply will vary in each Country and Region - so check with your local area when recruitment is open.
You don't need to have any particular skills or experience to get involved - you just need to be ready to get stuck in.
To ensure a diverse and inclusive programme, we actively encourage applications from members who are disabled, LGBT and from black or minority ethnic groups.
How do I apply?
Recruitment has already happened in the North East Region, London and the South East (LASER) and Scotland - and we'll be visiting all Countries and Regions by the end of 2018! Fill out your details below so we can keep you updated.
