You are spectacular

A year spent meeting thousands and thousands of members – Commissioners, Leaders, girls and young women - has reminded us just how much fun, adventure and new experiences we all get from being part of Girlguiding.

We can’t thank you enough for your amazing contribution in 2016.

A fantastic guiding year

Just last month we asked County Commissioners what incredible activities had been happening in their area - and the list was dizzying! Girls have been crate-stacking, rugby playing, windsurfing, geocaching, slack-lining, tree climbing, mountain biking, outdoor cooking, zip-lining, water sliding, Olympic sporting and Snowdon climbing. WOW!

2016 was a special year of centenary celebrations – the Senior Section Spectacular - and what a spectacular year it has been! A whopping 90,000 members did Mission Spectacular activities in their units. And 25,000 members took part in events up and down the UK - from huge camps like Carnival Fete and social action projects like Live it up!, to international challenges like Going Stateside and fantastic events like Spectacular Ewe and the Senior Section Ball.

We’ve loved meeting the members who became new Queen’s Guides over the course of the year, and seeing girls and young women from every section celebrating 100 years of The Senior Section. We are looking forward to working together to make the next 100 years just as memorable.

What next?

There is so much to look forward to in the New Year. We have another great calendar of events in 2017, and we’re hoping to see you at one of them. Next year we’ll be carrying on with our Being our best plans and welcoming even more new volunteers and girls, growing our membership and supporting young women through the Action for Change programme.

Best of all, we’ll continue our journey together to transform our programme, with free taster kits arriving with you in summer. We can’t wait to hear what you think!

So thank you again for your wonderful contribution to making this year such a spectacular one for Girlguiding.Through fun, friendship, challenge and adventure you have empowered girls to find their voice, inspiring them to discover the best in themselves and to make a positive difference in their community. It is a privilege to serve with you.

Wishing you every happiness in 2017.
