The Membership Recruitment and Retention team
We're developing new ways to recruit - and keep - volunteers and girls. Meet our team and hear about our current projects
Our team is working on innovative ways to support the growth of our membership
In the Membership Recruitment and Retention team, we create resources and trial new ideas that will help you get new adults and girls to join Girlguiding, as well as giving them reasons to stay.
We have two great Lead Volunteers who make sure everything we do is fit for purpose and we share what we've learned with other departments in Girlguiding.
Meet some of the team and get some insight into our current projects and future plans.
Head of Membership Recruitment and Retention
I oversee all of the projects in Membership Recruitment and Retention, in partnership with Kim Whitmore and Fliss Callanan our Lead and Deputy Lead Volunteers for Membership Growth and Retention.
It's up to me to ensure that we're all working together to pilot new initiatives that will help local guiding recruit and retain members.
I'm also a flying enthusiast, tennis player and hiker.
Senior Membership Recruitment Coordinator
I’m currently researching and writing a plan that looks at how much our volunteers are getting out of their first year with us, supporting volunteers that are piloting our Lead into Guiding resource, and looking at the flexibility of our volunteering options.
The rest of my time is spent either in water, covered in paint or working on my BIG, fun ‘to do’ list – this year’s list includes climbing a mountain, going to a festival and planning a trip to Japan!
Membership Recruitment Coordinator
I’m working on a resource to get guiding into every community – Unit in a Box – a pick-up, easy-to-use guide on how to set up a new unit. To start with I’m looking specifically at hospital units and how we can help anyone to set them up.
I’m also working with teams across Girlguiding to think about how we engage with parents and give them a great experience of guiding.
I love art, breakfast cereal and walking around London.
Inclusion Project Coordinator
I work to make sure that all our volunteers are supported with the information and resources they need to make guiding available to all girls. At the moment I’m looking at how we can work more with other expert charities to support our members and how we can provide more support at a local level.
Outside of guiding I'm a composer and sound designer, where I focus on engaging new audiences with electronic music, my most recent project was an interactive, musical blanket fort in East London!
Membership Recruitment Assistant
I assist the team on a number of exciting projects that are currently taking place to improve the recruitment and retention of members. I also support the team with administrative tasks and preparation for various events that happen throughout the year.
I like travelling and exploring new places as well as visiting museums in my spare time.
Relationship Manager – Countries and Regions
I support staff and volunteers in Countries and Regions to grow their membership – attending events to support growth planning, offering guidance and linking growth projects up.
At the moment I’m collecting ideas around running great recruitment events/stands, using online platforms to recruit volunteers, tools to help Commissioners plan for growth as well as great ideas for supporting girls to move from one section to another.
I’m a Senior Section Leader and the Warm Welcome Lead for new volunteers in my Division. I like to cycle, eat cake and spend time with my family.
Lead Volunteer Membership Growth and Retention
As a Lead Volunteer, my role is to offer the members’ thoughts and feelings on work happening at national level. I’m a Trainer and an active Guide and Senior Section Leader, so I understand the challenges faced by members every week.
I’m passionate about getting as many girls as possible involved in this wonderful movement and our continued growth as an organisation is incredibly important. My work with the team has included working on the Recruitment Campaign pack, retention research, strengthening links with Countries and Regions, and helping to shape our strategic growth initiatives.
I enjoy dancing around my handbag and going for afternoon tea!
Deputy Lead Volunteer Membership Growth and Retention
This year I will be working on guidance about setting up and running units in schools through the Unit in a Box project. I’ll also be looking at youth leadership development through Girlguiding.
I love baking cakes and travelling (although not at the same time - it just makes a mess)!
Improving Access to Guiding (IA2G) Project Manager
I head up the IA2G project, in which we’re developing resources and ideas to improve the experience and induction of new volunteers. I'm usually juggling spreadsheets and reports while staying in touch with everyone involved, from local volunteers to our funders Pears Foundation. I'm passionate about volunteers and volunteering and am excited to get more adults into Girlguiding.
As well as all this, I love to hike, paint and travel.
IA2G Project Coordinator (Recruitment and Induction)
I work closely with our local volunteers to guarantee our newest adult members are given the warmest of welcomes. As someone with lots of experience volunteering, I hope to ensure that our new recruits receive a high-quality, beneficial induction when they start.
I own a toy penguin who travels the world and has over 2600 followers on Instagram.
IA2G Project Coordinator (Training and Placement)
I was previously part of the UYSAF Project and I'm really excited to be working to create more opportunities for volunteers and girls to join Girlguiding through IA2G. I'm making sure our volunteers get to access as many learning opportunities as possible, and that they're matched with the right roles.
To relax, I love to swim, bake or chill out in the garden with a good book.
