Ready, set…

Some simple ways you can support the national volunteer drive this November

By doing these things, you can help get as many volunteers as possible for our national volunteer recruitment campaign

This November we’re running our first ever national volunteer recruitment campaign. More volunteers will mean that more girls can enjoy the benefits of guiding. And we need you, our current volunteers, to help make the campaign a real success.

You might have already been following our recruitment bootcamp plan in your local area. Now’s the time to get ready for making the most of the national push.

1. Get involved

They’ll be lots of ways you can get involved with the campaign, whether that’s online or out in your local community - watch this space in the coming weeks for details!

Here’s a sneak peek of our behind the scenes filming at Blackland Farm, one of Girlguiding’s activity centres. Watch our video below to get a taste of what’s to come next week!

2. Spread the word

We’ll be shouting loudly about the campaign on social media - add your voice by sharing it too. Follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook so you’re the first to see and share our campaign when it launches.

You could also think about how you can include the campaign in any emails that you send out, or in any publications in your local area. Here’s a small paragraph you can use to do that.

Know your place with Girlguiding

Join a movement of women and girls inspiring each other. Girlguiding has a waiting list of over 70,000 girls. With your help, even more girls could benefit from the amazing experiences guiding has to offer. Volunteer with us today to help a generation of girls build their confidence, have fun and fulfil their potential. Find out more at girlguiding.org.uk.

We’ll also be creating posters which will be available to download from our online design centre - ready for you to print once the campaign launches. Put these up at your local meetings, events or anywhere else you can support us in shouting out about the campaign.

3. Chat to parents in your unit

We’ll be sharing details of the campaign with parents on our mailing list but why not use the recruitment campaign to start a conversation with them about coming to volunteer in your unit?

If they’ve seen the new campaign film, use it to start a conversation about how they can volunteer in your unit. And if they haven’t seen it yet, then share it with them – it might just inspire them to come back next week and try out volunteering.

4. Give new recruits a warm welcome

Make sure you get in touch, before Christmas, with anyone who signs up thanks to the campaign. It could just be a quick email introducing yourself, the opportunities available in your area and promising to get back in touch after Christmas. You could also send them a link to our new induction video, which gives people a great sense of what it’s like to be involved in guiding.

Here’s some text you could email to anyone interested before Christmas, so that they’re ready to go as soon as possible – or in the new year if they’re not quite ready yet.

Thanks so much for your interest in joining Girlguiding as a volunteer! We rely on amazing people just like you to bring fun, exciting experience to over 400,000 girls and young women.

It’s fantastic to hear from you – we’ll be in touch really soon to learn more about what you’d be interested in helping out with – whether that’s working with girls in one of our units or helping support us in an admin or managerial role. You can find out more about all the different roles available in our fab new video.

In the meantime, take a look at our induction video to find out more about what guiding’s all about – and we’ll be in touch soon!

Commissioners – don’t forget to invite all your new volunteers along to a taster session to show them what guiding’s like. Get some inspiration for your taster session and work with people in your area to start planning one in for the new year.

Come back for more soon

More information on our campaign will be released in the week starting 13 November. Keep your eyes peeled on 'Discover, grow' for a sneak peek of the campaign in the coming weeks.

We’ve been helping you get recruitment ready over the past nine months. Now's a good time to make sure you’ve done everything you need to prepare for the campaign.
