Heading to Magic and Mayhem? Your questions answered

Check you’ve got everything you need for your most magical adventure away yet

29 March 2022

A favourite in the Girlguiding calendar year, Magic and Mayhem is our annual fun-filled circus extravaganza for Rainbows and Brownies.

Although we can’t wait to get back to the festivities, we understand some volunteers may feel anxious about returning to large-scale events.

So, we’ve answered some of your questions to make sure you’ve got everything you need for a magical trip away.

What paperwork do I need?

If you’re staying overnight at Magic and Mayhem, you should’ve already completed your Residential Event Notification (REN) forms by now. That’s because these need to be completed at least 12 weeks before the event. As a leader, you’ll also need to bring a copy of every girl’s health form (only for those staying overnight) and information and consent form (for all). You can find copies of both of these forms here.

Leaders will also have received an email containing an information form. This is for us to get an overview of your group, travel timings and any dietary requirements etc. The deadline for returning this form is 1 April 2022.

The great news is that you don’t need a Going Away With licence to bring your girls to this event.

What do I need to bring?

To fully enjoy all that Magic and Mayhem has to offer, it’s best to come prepared. Make sure you and the girls in your unit know what you need to bring. Girls staying overnight will need more kit than those just coming along for the day. Check out the full kit list on page two of the booking pack.

Will the event cater to girls with special dietary needs?

Yes, as long as you’ve let us know in your forms. If you’re staying overnight, you’ll have Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast included in the price of your ticket.

How do I get to Magic and Mayhem?

You’ll need to organise your own travel on the way there, but we’ll sort out your collection to and from local train stations. We’ve asked for your arrival and departure timings in the information form, so we can make sure there are enough buses. Travelling by car or coach? No problem. Just let us know so we can arrange a parking permit, and include if relevant whether your coach driver has any requirements. We’re sorry that due to space limitations, we can only guarantee one parking permit per unit.

Can I bring my own children?

Yes, you can. If you’re a leader and you’d like to bring your own children, you’ll need to get them booked in. You'll find this option on the booking form. Unfortunately, we can’t offer them all of the activities that are available to units. It costs £10 per day for a child and £25 for overnight.

Above all else, just remember to have fun! We’ll be in constant communication with email reminders in the run-up to the event to make sure you’ve got everything you need for you and your unit. Each Activity Centre will have slightly different pre-arrival information, so keep your eyes peeled for an email from them.

Got a question that's not on this list? If we've not answered it above or in any of your pre-arrival emails, just send us an email at [email protected]
